Oracle Cloud Console redesigned homepage

Discovery

What was wrong with the old homepage?

The homepage no longer matched user needs. Tutorials and feature guides saw little engagement, leaving experienced users underserved.

What once supported onboarding had become noise. It was clear that the console needed a homepage designed for day-to-day workflows.

Research Findings

Through interviews and analytics, we discovered the homepage felt static and disconnected from user goals. It didn't reflect why they came to the console or help them take the next step.

Users often described it as "background noise" and bypassed it with shortcuts and bookmarks to reach the areas they actually needed.

Key Insight

The homepage had to evolve from a passive landing page into a dynamic starting point that met users where they were and guided them forward.

Initial Concept

With my direction we quickly prototyped our first ideas, focusing on:

  • A summary of the most visited areas of the console
  • A modular framework for flexible content
  • Visualizations of key data
  • Options to reorder or hide content

Gaining Support

I shared our research and prototype with senior leadership. The vision sparked excitement and secured approval to form a dedicated team to refine and develop the ideas further.

Making it real

User Journeys

I ran workshops with SMEs to map the most common user journeys, uncovering opportunities to make homepage widgets more relevant and actionable.

I then worked closely with service teams to understand what data could be reliably surfaced via APIs, ensuring the homepage aligned with both user needs and technical feasibility.

Refined widgets

Refine

We iterated on each widget to develop reusable patterns that aligned with the console design system.

Testing on device

Test

User testing confirmed the homepage was a clear improvement. Modern, clean, and visually appealing with users prioritizing the ability to reorder and hide widgets.

Build and Launch

What was delivered

This was the first project launch of the console redesign project as a whole and as such we delivered extremely detailed and clear handoff documents to help support a smooth delivery.

To ensure a smooth release, we worked closely with Engineering, Product, and Leadership teams to align on delivery.
